The breakfast will be hosted by State Labor candidate Dr Ursula Stephens.
Mr Leigh is the Federal Member for Frazer, one of the ACT’s largest electorates, and prior to being elected in 2010 he was a professor of economics at the Australian National University (ANU).
He holds a PHD in public policy from Harvard and graduated from the University of Sydney with first class honours in Law and Arts.
He has also previously worked as a lawyer and as a principal adviser to the Australian Treasury.
In 2011 he received the Young Economist Award, which is a prize given every two years by the Economics Society of Australia to the best Australian economist under 40.
He has written three books, entitled ‘Disconnected’ (2010), ‘Battlers and Billionaires’ (2013), and ‘The Economics of Just About Everything’ (2014).
Dr Stephens told the Post that she was delighted to have such a well respected Labor identity come to Goulburn to share his ideas and thoughts with local business owners.
“Andrew Leigh is one of the ‘bright young thinkers’ of the Labor Party and he really understands Australia’s economics system,” Dr Stephens said.
“The conversation at this breakfast will certainly be stimulating and thought provoking.
“It will also provide the local business community with a chance to address Mr Leigh on issues that concern them. Often businesses have a hard time communicating their thoughts and concerns with both Federal and State governments on many different issues.
“This breakfast will be open to the public and for business owners before they head to work on Friday morning to come and to be part of the conversation.”
Dr Leigh said he was looking forward to engaging in conversation with local businesspeople hearing their thoughts and concerns.
“Strong regional communities can contribute a lot to the overall growth of Australia’s economy,” Dr Leigh said.
“Whether it’s supporting small business, growing the agricultural sector or developing new local industries, we need to be constantly looking for ways to support economic development.
“It’s a valuable initiative of Ursula’s to bring businesspeople and community leaders together so that we can help regional economies like Goulburn to thrive.”
Cost for the breakfast is $20 per person, and you can RSVP Michelle Baxter by today on 4822 3974.
