He also holds Premier Mike Baird accountable for December’s Sydney Siege.
In the space of 24 hours, the Christian Democratic Party candidate for the seat of Goulburn managed to offend varying political minds the state over.
Mr Van Der Byl on Tuesday took to 2UE airways to defend his claim that the economy changed for the worse the moment Neville Wran decriminalised sodomy.
In Wednesday’s Goulburn Post, the Christian Democrat wrote that Mr Baird’s acceptance of Islam culminated in the Sydney Siege – an armed hold-up that cost the lives of two innocent people.
Mr Van Der Byl’s name attracted attention of major news network journalists after The Sydney Morning Herald on Tuesday ran an article detailing comments made at a Goulburn Soldiers Club campaign forum more than a fortnight ago, covered by the Goulburn Post the next day.
At the forum, Mr Van Der Byl linked the economy’s problems with a change in social values.
“It began in the last century when Neville Wran brought about the decimalisation of sodomy,” he told the gathering.
“Then the next generation of politicians worked further – people like Kristina Keneally and Pru Goward did their bit to change our values, and they gave us same sex adoption and same sex surrogacy.
“Yes, ladies and gentlemen, last time you voted for a politician who worked to change your core values and the way your taxes are spent.”
Once Sydney media figures caught wind of the comments, Mr Van Der Byl’s presence became high demand.
On Tuesday he spoke to 2UE’s Justin Smith to explain his position.
“What it [homosexuality] is actually doing is changing the social values of the economy by destroying the basic unit of our society – the family,” Mr Van Der Byl said.
“You want to destroy the family unit, you end up destroying the economy because people will end up with a different set of values.
“The protestant work ethic will disappear and it will be replaced by a set of values that call for socalled equality, which is indeed marriage destruction.
“You will give people a destiny in life which has no benefit for future generations. So there you go, this is the heritage we are going to bequeath to our future generations.”
Host Justin Smith described his guest’s views as “the biggest load of crap I’ve ever heard”.
“If you win a seat in parliament, I’ll move to Brazil,” he added.
It seems Mr Van Der Byl’s controversial comments didn’t end there.
In Wednesday’s Goulburn Post, the Christian Democrat lined-up Premier Mike Baird.
“He has catered to the advancement of a parallel civilisation, not understanding that the accompanying Islamic Sharia law is antithetical to our legal system and rule of law, which calls for acts of Jihad,” he wrote.
“We were then thanked with the Martin Place Siege.”
