THE last time these old foes met, Hibo produced a memorable victory, but not before Robbo had pushed the entire way in nail biting fashion.

The two sides will meet again in the grand-final at Bowral’s Bradman Oval this weekend, and it’s safe to say Hibo are going into the clash with a sense of confidence.
It’s not because Robbo were looking down the barrel of a 270 run chase against Hill Top before rain handed them a default victory.
And it’s not because Hibo are the competition’s only unbeaten team.
It’s because they’re confident of doing the little things right.
And if they can do the simple things well, then captain Mik Webber believes his side has a good shot of bringing home the bacon for the first time in four years.
“We’re going in pretty confident, like this has probably been the best season i’ve ever been involved with cricket wise,” Webber told the Post.
“We know we just have to do those simple things we’ve been doing all year, score runs, field well and I’m sure we’ll be fine.”
The captain points out his big hitting batsmen, who have stood tall this season.
Openers Jesse Cao, Brad Webster, along with Josh Watling and Dane Stevenson have all stood out, but the team’s batting depth has also been tested and proven.
In fact it was the case the last time the two sides met two week’s ago in the major semi-final.
“As you know cricket can be a funny sport, you can have em 3/20 then all of a sudden you’re on the backfoot,” Webber said.
“I think(last game) it’ll give them a bit (of confidence), because it’s definitely been our closest game, especially in the second half of the year, we didn’t field too well.
“Their batting is definitely their strength, but if we can get some wickets early, and get Nathan Wright, and their key batter Hamilton, he’s their most dangerous, if we can get him early we’ll be halfway there.”
Vice captain Brad Smith says the team is confident but admits, anything can happen in a game between Hibo and Robertson.
History sees both sides with three wins, and three defeats against each other when it comes to grand-finals.
“I guess they’ve been our biggest rivals over the last seven or eight years,” Smith said.
“The way they bat I think is a bit aggressive and they hit a lot in the air so I think playing at Bradman, it won’t necessarily favour any team. It’s a little bit harder to contain teams there.
“If we can get over 300.... Well it would be good if we can bat first.
“But if we bowl first then it’ll be good to do what we did in the major semi final, just take wickets and bat sensibly and chase it down.”
Hibo player profiles:
Mik Webber – RH opening bowler, RH top order bat, captain: At the risk of repeating previous years’ comments; this is Mik’s time of year. No stranger to plenty of wickets and plenty of runs, we expect nothing different in the grand final. He will no doubt lead from the front and is sure to be a significant contributor to the team effort. Likes Bradman Oval, likes a challenge and likes to win.
Brad Smith - RH opening bowler, RH bat, vice captain: Brad has been the competitions leading wicket taker for consecutive seasons. Strong bowler, able to complete long spells and very much a team player. Brad’s batting down the order has seen some excellent contributions this year with limited opportunities. Shouldn’t be forgotten that he has successfully opened the batting during a premiership year.
Jesse Cao - RH opening bat, RH seam up bowler: Powerful opening batsman. Excellent season contributing to big team scores with an aggressively effective method that puts opposition bowlers immediately on notice. Jesse has score a very good century this year and although he hasn’t been required to bowl, he is capable of bowling good spells of strong seam up. Could field anywhere.
Hamish Copland - RH mid order bat, RH seam up bowler: The team’s very strong batting line up has seen Hamish with limited opportunities at the crease this year. He stood up in the major final to help see us home and safely into the grand final. Hamish bats aggressively and adopts the same mind set with his quality seam up. Strong in the field regardless of the position.
Mick Gerstenberg - RH middle order bat, RH seam up bowler: Injury and golf have seen this excellent all round sportsman miss a few games this year but welcome to the team whenever he is available. Mick’s commonsense approach combined with an aggressive nature sees a very hard hitting batter, ever eager to get on with the job. Another handy seam up bowler not required to bowl this year but good to know he is there to bowl if needed.
Marcus James - RH bat, RH seam up bowler: Steady seam up bowler with great shape. Marcus takes important wickets, giving very little away to the batter. Opponents take liberties with Marcus at their own risk. Bowls a lot of wicket balls and has contributed with very good spells this season. Marcus is another who bats better than his position the order would suggest but he is playing in a very strong batting side.
Brad Mitchell - RH bat, RH seam up bowler: Southern Lands unluckiest bowler has had a small change of fortune this season. Brad and the team are beginning to reap the rewards for his consistency and perseverance. Brad’s pace is fine and he bowls with good shape. Yet another capable batter with good contributions this season, despite coming in down the order.
Nick Skelly - RH middle order bat, RH leg spin bowler: Batting in the middle order with successful and quality contributions during 2014/15. Nick’s another aggressive batter who relishes being on top of the bowling and capable of playing anywhere in the order. Leg spin bowling has been an excellent foil to the other bowlers and capable of bowling well for lengthy spells.
Oliver Sharwood - RH middle order bat, wicket keeper: Has had some very good scores this year and kept wickets in a very tidy and efficient manner. Classic style batter and gives his bowlers confidence when standing behind the stumps. When not keeping, Ollie can field anywhere with great hands and a rocket arm. His anticipation and rapid feet provide excellent bases regardless of the job at hand.
Dane Stevenson - RH top order bat, RH off spin bowler: The competition’s leading batter this year has scored two centuries and performed strongly throughout the season. Dane comes in early and readily adapts his game to suit the game situation. Probably the competition’s premier spin bowler. Offies are wicket takers or he can consistently tie up an end to keep the pressure on for his bowling partner.
Andrew Tivey - RH bat, RH seam up bowler: A true team player, a wicket taker, excellent fielder and ever capable of slapping some late order runs. Andrew bowls at a good pace, shapes the ball and takes wickets. He is like a whippet in the fields and has very safe hands. Tiv is also the head groundsman at Seiffert and is responsible for the good wickets provided there all season.
Josh Watling - RH middle order bat, RH seam up bowler, wicket keeper: Capable of scoring big and quickly. Josh’s batting and cover fielding are of an equally high standard. A man of many talents, Josh is an excellent wicket keeper, an outstanding fielder and a quality seam up bowler whose bowling skills have not been required so far in 2014/15. Would love another ton to finish the season.
Brad Webster - RH opening bat, RH off spin bowler: The rock at the top of the order. Brad has taken on the new ball all year and been responsible for regularly setting a solid platform for the following stroke-makers. The offies haven’t been required this year but the safe hands add to what is an excellent fielding team. Brad puts a high price on his wicket; if they get him, they’ll have earned it.
Patrick Burke - Publican extraordinaire, excellent sponsor: Patrick and the Hibo continue to support us. We are indeed indebted to them and look forward to an ongoing and successful relationship. The best 12th man you could possibly have.
