Bruce Fuller wants to know. He has his medal after all, and is looking for someone to return it to.
But there’s a catch. The medal, which is adorned with the “Continental Road Race on the front”, and the name “F. Wedd” emblazoned on the back, is well over 100 years old.
It is from 1909, and was the winning medal from a 12 mile cycling race along the Braidwood Road.
Through the course of time, it’s found it’s way into Fuller’s possession and he has no idea who Wedd is or how it came into the family’s possession.
“I don’t know much about how it came into our family,” the 60-year-old from the Sunshine Coast told the Post.
“I have a hunch it was my father or my grandfather that picked it up along the way and it’s just been with us ever since.”
“When we found it recently, it just said 09. We didn’t know if it was from 1909 or 2009!”
Through his own detective work, Fuller found a Wedd family that lived in Goulburn in the early 20th century.
Frank Wedd and his wife were well known member of the community and had a had a son, also named Frank. And that’s who Fuller believes is the rightful owner.
“That Frank died in Casino, northern NSW in 1975,” Fuller said.
“I have no idea if he had family, but it would be good if someone wanted it, to treasured it.
“It’s been well looked after and it’s in almost perfect condition.
“If not i’ll pass it on to my grand children and they can take care of it.”
Does the name Frank Wedd ring a bell?
