After the side had gone down against a strong Tuggeranong outfit in the opening round, a home victory was exactly what the Swans needed to kickstart their season.
Cooma didn’t seem to have the answers to the quick Swans. In the second quarter Goulburn kicked nine goals, three behinds to Cooma barely getting the ball into their attacking half.
But Russell says it’s nothing to get worked up on just yet.
“It’s good to get the season on track, but i’m reminding everyone that they were under strengthened.
They were short players and we had to play 16 on 16 in the end,” he said.
“I hope they know that. The win doesn’t mean anything if we don’t play our style of footy.
“That’s what we need to do, it doesn’t matter who we play as long as we’re playing our style of footy. Keeping our structures, doing those things.”
Captain Dale Cummins was a Swan highlight, getting a lot of the ball and kicking four goals.
As was Ben Conway and vice captain Simon Treloar.
“No one didn’t not do their job,” Russell said.
“We moved Mitch Chapman to the ruck and I thought he did very well.
“I also moved Dane Stevenson to the backline and he was also very good.”
