The team is on a bit of a high, after coming away from Cootamundra last weekend with a win against the equal leaders in the competition 104 to 82.
Cootamundra have always been hard to beat at home and last week’s game was quite a physical encounter.
Goulburn did suffer one reasonably serious casualty of the match with Liam Halder dislocating a shoulder and being unable to play for several games at the very least.
This week the boys are at home on Goodhew Park hoping to make amends for the first round drubbing by the Tuggeranong Hawks who put 90 extra points on the red and whites.
Coach Heath Russell is expecting a slightly different visiting team to the one they encountered in the round one clash as he anticipates that several of the players who were key to the Hawks success on that occasion may be playing in a higher grade now.
“In any case it will still, likely be a very competitive game,” Russell said.
“We have a fairly young team with just some of the older players in the mix and they are all getting used to my style of coaching and game plans.
“They are all keen and we have a good committee behind us keen to make game days at home enjoyable for both players and spectators.
“As well as Liam Halder on the injury list we have Andrew Mewburn out with a groin injury and Mitch Chapman with an elbow injury but he still may be fit enough for some time on the park we will just have to wait and see.
“The game on Saturday starts at 2.15pm and for those who don’t know where Goodhew Park is, it is on the northern side of Neville St off Victoria St.
If the day is cold spectators can park on the grounds surrounding the field and watch from the comfort of their vehicle.”
The Swans have a canteen on the ground selling hot food as well as hot and cold drinks and a wide selection of snacks.
There is also plenty of area where the kids can run around while parents watch the game.
