This year’s recipients of the Ray Harvey Sports Foundation were presented with grants up to $300 each at Tuesday’s Council meeting.

Up and coming tennis player Ryan Murphy and hockey player Lachlan Norberg each received $250. Other scholarships were: Tamika and Alyssa Wallace (cycling), Ryan Hill (hockey), Jordan Howard (swimming), Callum Emmerton (cycling), Brady Deaton (hockey), James Finch (rugby union), Natasha Phillips- Edgar (tennis), Annabel Croker (hockey) and Justin McNamara (swimming), all of whom received $300.

They were selected following a call for applications.

In presenting the cheques, committee chair Cr Margaret O’Neill said the Ray Harvey Foundation was very close to her heart.

“It’s been running for 32 years,” she said.

“On Friday night at the Hall of Fame dinner we had three inductees who previously received Ray Harvey scholarships.”

Cr O’Neill said sport was the lifeblood of the community and was a welcome diversion from the computer.

“I hope you do well in whatever sport you play and I congratulate you on your achievements,” she said.

Committee members Cr Sam Rowland and Conway Bogg also presented cheques.

The Foundation was established in memory of the late Ray Harvey who contributed to many sport and community activities throughout the Goulburn community.

The purpose of the Foundation is to provide support to promising young sports people, helping them financially with coaching fees and providing assistance with costs associated with competition experience outside the Goulburn Mulwaree LGA.

Goulburn Mulwaree Council is the Trustee of the Ray Harvey Sports Foundation that was established to assist promising young sports persons to obtain coaching and competitive experience outside the Goulburn Mulwaree area.

There are two grant application rounds per financial year and details of how and when to apply for the grants can be found on the Council’s website.
