The ACT Jam is a rider voted BMX freestyle riding event with a 15 and under division as well as a 16+ division.
There was also best trick and best rider prizes awarded, with the rider receiving the most ‘best rider’ votes in total over the four venues and being crowned ‘King of the ACT’.
“I was the winner for the under 16s, so I was therefore announced ‘King of the ACT for under 16s’,” Matt said.
“It really looks good for not only me, but also my sponsors who have been supporting me all the way through.
“The ACT Jam goes for two days, and there are four locations; Woden, Weston, and Belconnen Skate Parks with the final and an after party held at Westside Acton Park.
“After day one everyone went home, then day two came and the first stop was Belco Skatepark and I crashed really hard there, but got back up and rode after a little.
“Then the fourth and last stop was at Westside Acton Park, and at the end of that people were announced the winners for the best trick.”
Bassingthwaite said that Terry Bennett from Terry’s Bike Shop in Goulburn had been tremendous, in providing him a well balanced bike setup for the competition and Fox Head Clothing who also sponsored him with the clothes.
