The station’s vice-president and assistant technician Bob Brewer said the station would soon be upgrading the transmitter from 200 watts to 2000 watts.

“This should boost the signal to almost the ACT and Yass - so we should pick some more listeners - at moment it cuts out at about 15km out of town,” he said.

“The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) approved this increase this year and we are sorting through the technical details of achieving it.

“We will most likely start broadcasting with the stronger signal in about September this year, when the main technician returns.”

Mr Brewer said other current initiatives at the station include the launch of a website and live streaming, as well as outside broadcasting such as the Goulburn Bulldogs home games and other events such as the recent Mary Gilmore celebrations in Crookwell.

“There is a brand new and energised board of management to make decisions to improve our station,” he said.

“We currently have Facebook and Instagram pages, and will be setting up Twitter, YouTube and any other social sites our listeners would like to connect with us on.

“So we are hoping members of the community become involved in our revamp by listening to us, giving us feedback, becoming members, or becoming presenters. There are always behind the scenes positions available. No job is too big or too small.”

Mr Brewer said the essence of community radio is that it does not have too many ads, but a lot of community service announcements.

“We don’t operate for profit, so we are only allowed to carry advertising for about five minutes per hour,” he said.

“We have lots of community service announcements covering various community initiatives such as mental health or road safety messages, but it is mostly music.”
