They have won their grand final 27 to 15 against an opposition prepared to go down fighting.
In the early part of the game on Poidevin Oval Hall Bushrangers appeared to dominate play with Goulburn Dirty Reds unable to get the ball over the line or making errors that cost them possession.
The strong gusty wind made it difficult for the kickers with Goulburn suffering the worst from not reading the wind well.
Hall, playing with the wind in the first half, had the upper hand and managed to go to the break with a handy 15 points to seven lead.
Goulburn was not out of touch though, and with the wind in their favour along with a reiteration of their game plan they fought back to bring the score difference to one point behind.
Goulburn kept to their game plan in the second half and rolled the ball forward despite some very physical encounters from Hall desperate to defend their try line.
Jack Brims made several gallant attempts to charge through the Bushrangers gaining some ground.
Goulburn tried to go round the defenders using their passing to get the ball quickly out wide but were either pushed out or brought down without making much ground.
A penalty in front was misskicked by Dominic Falk but with another opportunity from out wide he managed to get it through between the uprights giving Goulburn the lead.
Hall’s game seemed to be deteriorating and they had not added any points since before half-time.
Though several Goulburn attempts to push the ball over the line were thwarted and possession handed over, the visitors didn’t seem to do much with it and Goulburn was back on the attack.
From seven points down at half time and sticking to their game plan while ignoring to a large extent the distraction of the physicality of their opponents, Goulburn was awarded with points shifting ahead to 24 to 15 just before full time. A final kick gave them a well deserved victory of 27 points to 15 and the second season in a row that they have remained undefeated throughout the entire competition.
The stand out performer of this game was Jack Brims who was inspirational in his attempts to get the ball over the line.
He was justly awarded with the man of the match trophy adding to the Dirty Reds honours of minor and competition premiers.
Hall came away from the game knowing that they had risen from wooden spooners to the number two team in the competition.
The Second Grade Dirty Reds side were not so lucky, having come through the entire season undefeated they went down to a vastly improved Yass team 24 to 19.
Yass have been consistent improvers throughout the competition and they were at full strength for their grand final encounter.
Goulburn suffered from a few handling errors but in all this was a good spectacle of grand final rugby union.
One of the Yass players suffered a knee injury during the first half and had to be stretchered from the field and then taken to hospital by ambulance.
Yass succeeded as the only team to defeat the Dirty Reds Seconds this season with their grand final performance and came away from the game with the major prize while Goulburn was presented with the minor premier trophy.
