National Dog Day serves to recognise the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, and acknowledges family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort.
Dogs put their lives on the line every day - for their law enforcement partner, for their blind companion, for a child who is disabled, for our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and pulling victims of tragedy from wreckage.
What's more, they are just so sweet, aren't they?
To mark the occasion, we want you to send us your favourite photos of your beloved hound. Dressed up, up to mischief, playing in the backyard, having a snooze, we aren't fussy. Let's put them on show.
To have your pet added to the gallery, email your photo to brittany.murphy@fairfaxmedia.com.au or post it to our Facebook, with their name ofcourse.
