The students have been busy creating photographic self-portraits and using technology to enhance the images, courtesy of an innovative arts program called Imagine Me.
Workshops were held at the school recently and artist Sue Murray said the students really engaged with the project.
“The aim of the Imagine Me project is for the participants to explore their imagination in creative photography and digital-imaging workshops,” Ms Murray said.
“The kids were brilliant. They were really enthusiastic. I love working with kids - they are so open to creative challenges.”
Imagine Me usually works with people with spinal cord injuries, but was able to carry out the workshop at the Crescent School because of funding obtained by from the Australia Council and Arts NSW.
Southern Tablelands Regional Arts development officer Susan Conroy said the Imagine Me Project in Regional NSW is supported by Australia Council for the Arts and NSW Government through the Lifetime Care and Support Authority and Arts NSW.
The longer-term vision for Imagine Me is to run creative workshops along with a touring exhibition of the artworks across Australia, that will raise public awareness and foster greater empathy for people living with disability, and encourage participation in the cultural life of local communities.
