Instead, the Council will now work to reducing greenhouse gases from operations year to year.
In an update tabled to Council during Tuesday night’s meeting, Director of Goulburn Mulwaree Utilities and chair of the Sustainability Working Group Grant Moller presented the sustainability goals.
“By focusing on internal business and service functions, Council can make big sustainability impacts and act as a role model for the broader Goulburn Mulwaree community,” he wrote.
The Sustainability Working Group (SWG) was formed in February, with aim to raise the profile and importance of sustainability within Council and implement initiatives across business and service functions.
The group will develop a draft Sustainability Action Plan for the organisation. Objectives include the reduction of fuel consumption, electricity use, Biowaste and developing a sustainable approach to the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
A review of Council’s Sustainability Policy and the Sustainability Charter 2012-2017 will also take place.
“The goal of reducing emissions year on year is both achievable and realistic, and enables Council to be accountable annually and to deliver on long term sustainable operations,” Mr Moller wrote.
The group expects to present the Action Plan during a Council workshop in November.
