Callum Emmerton, Tassie Davies, Tamika Wallace and Zac St Vincent are holding the event to help raise funds towards them competing in the Cycling Australia National Junior Track Series (NJTS).
“The kids will be doing a total of 1,000 kms around the Seiffert Oval Velodrome, which equates to roughly 100 kms each,” Goulburn Cycling Club representative Richard Davies told the Post.
“This is the first ever Goulburn team to be participating in the National Junior Track Series, so we’re very proud.”
Their first event in the National Junior Track Series was at the Dunc Gray Velodrome in Sydney on Friday, with interim results revealed yesterday.
“The kids have a healthy points tally and are in the top echelon of teams at the NJTS,” Mr Davies said.
“All of them did over 10 races each over the two day event, and they have also got good individual results, with Tamika Wallace winning a couple of races. In fact my daughter Tassie Davies probably rode in about 13 races and was fourth overall after day one of the competition.
Unfortunately the boys didn’t get any podium positions, but they were up against a large field of competitors.
We will certainly have some more results to come in the near future and by the time the kids reach the next stage in Melbourne in November, we’ll know more where they stand.”
The second leg of the NJTS will be held in Melbourne on November 14 and the third and final leg will be in Launceston on December 4.
Fellow Cycling Club representative Graeme Northey agrees and said that there is certainly a lot of local cycling talent about.
“For these four youth to be participating in this track series is great, and they have been involved in our Junior Development Program,” Mr Northey said.
“The JDP has been running for about nine years now and we’ve had some real success stories in that time.
Now we’re taking it to the next level with the National Junior Track Series.
This event will also pave the way for more younger riders to participate in the future. We wish them all the best.”
To put your support behind these kids there is a drop in box for donations located at Barbecues Galore in Auburn St.
“We’re also happy for people to come up to Seiffert Oval on the day and support these guys,” Mr Davies said.
“There will be a sausage sizzle and drinks available and we are also talking to local businesses to get their support and sponsorship.”
