His funeral service held at St Peter and Paul’s Old Cathedral beforehand, attracted a famous visitor in the form of former Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who Mr Mowle was involved with in the Pollie Pedal bike ride.
Daughter Stephanie told the Post the funeral and wake were a fitting tribute to her father, who died last Thursday.
“It’s been great to see everyone here today and remembering Dad,” she said.
Graeme Northey, the MC for the Goulburn Golf Club function, knew Mr Mowle for a considerable time.
“We first met 40 years ago when we were working at Goulburn City Council and we have done a lot of things together since then,” he said.
Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott met Mr Mowle in 2000, when he became the ride director for the Pollie Pedal ride.
“Peter, the then Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor Max Hadlow and a number of other Goulburn members were integral members of the Pollie Pedal team,” he said.
“Peter became ride director when the Pollie Pedal was in its prime, and he would quite often have to arrange the logistics for up to eight or nine days with routes often over 1,000kms and had a staff of up to 50 volunteers.
“But it’s thanks to his prodigious efforts that over $3 million has been raised, which has gone towards such things as medical research, indigenous health, and for Carers Australia.
“None of that would have happened without Peter Mowle.
The least I could do today was to turn up and pay tribute to a great man and join with his family at this difficult time.”
