TO say that Braydan Willmington was rapt with his 2015-16 season debut last Saturday night at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway would be a massive understatement.

It has been just on 12 months since the 17-year-old stepped into the Speedcar class after a successful Junior Sedan career, and he last Saturday night claimed his maiden feature race podium result with a second- place finish behind fellow teenager Nick Rowe.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season,” expressed Willmington, who had earlier in the night recorded top-five finishes in the heat races and started from the outside of the front row for the feature race.
“I had a clean run throughout the feature race by driving smoothly and not making many mistakes, so it was great to be rewarded with my first podium result.”
Apart from Willmington breaking his podium drought, he was over the moon to have his childhood hero, Troy Jenkins, join him on the podium in third.
“To have Troy (Jenkins) on the podium with me was a big thrill,” he said.
“Troy is one of the best Speedcar drivers in the country and someone I have always admired, so it made my first podium result even more special knowing that I had managed to finish ahead of him.”
Willmington is now focused on this Saturday night’s opening Speedcar Super Series round at Toowoomba’s Hi-Tec Oils Speedway in Queensland.
“I’m looking forward to being part of the Super Series as a contracted driver and taking on the country’s best drivers,” he enthused.
“My Super Series goal is to try and be a top-10 contender, and anything after that is just going to be a bonus.”
Following last Saturday night’s podium result, it has certainly filled Willmington with more confidence.
