Police are investigating after a service station in Gunning was targeted twice this week for break and enter offences.
At about 4am on Saturday (November 14), two people broke into the shop on Yass Street, before leaving empty-handed when the alarm was triggered.
Then at about 1.40am on Tuesday, November 17, two people attended the same shop in a white utility with a stolen trailer attached.
Police said they secured a strap to a machine that was believed to have been mistaken for an ATM, before using the vehicle to pull the machine away from the building.
After assessing the machine, they left it behind and drove down Yass Street towards Gundaroo.
The utility was later pursued by police in the ACT; however, the vehicle was not stopped.
Their trailer was later found dumped on Dicks Creek Road, Murrumbateman.
Goulburn Police crime manager Detective Inspector Chad Gillies said police are are still investigating both crimes.
“We have a number of lines of inquiry, but are asking witnesses to come forward if they have seen suspicious vehicles or people in the area on rural roads. We are also increasing our patrols in the area,” Detective Inspector Gillies said.
Police are urging anyone with information about these specific incidents to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
“We remind people they should not report crime information via our Facebook and Twitter pages,” Detective Inspector Gillies said.
Meanwhile, a Gunning local has told the Goulburn Post that the machine that vandals actually pulled from the wall was used for the rental of utes and trailers.
“I don’t know how they missed the ATM - it has ATM written on it in big letters,” the man said.
The same source said there have been a spate of crimes in the village recently, with an amount of petrol drained from the fire truck and also an alleged raid on the butcher's shop two months ago.
