Some 400 people attended the procession, beginning on the corner of Verner and Auburn streets and culminating in a ceremonial rose planting at the Courthouse.
“So many people made the day a success. I was speechless, everybody was so amazing,” said Goulburn Domestic Violence committee member Chris Jordan.
“I tried to look around and see how many people were there and I couldn’t take it all in.”
Ms Jordan thanked Allanah from Holcim, Goulburn Trophies and Sportswear, John Greaves and Bunnings among the list of supporters.
Mission Australia south-eastern area manager and White Ribbon Ambassador Daniel Strickland said the event had attracted a “great mix” of the community, including a large contingent from the city’s three high schools.
“For the first event, I think it was a great number of people to attract,” Mr Strickland said.
“Just listening to some of the conversations that were being had, around the topic of domestic violence and men’s violence against women was great to hear. It was a huge success.”
He paid tribute to the Goulburn Domestic Violence Committee and to the Goulburn White Ribbon Committee.
“I think a massive thanks needs to go to the domestic violence committee, the brains behind running the event. They did a fantastic job.
“And to the Goulburn White Ribbon Committee, who donated a cheque to White Ribbon Australia for $5000 as well as a cheque of the same amount to the Goulburn Domestic Violence Committee.
“At the end of the day it was a great event and raised some awareness, but I look forward to the day where we no longer have the need to have such an event.
Until that day we will keep fighting that fight.”
