Meanwhile, the women’s crown was awarded to Bega Pool manager Zoe Philipzen, who also won her 600m age division race.
The title was not a first for Philipzen either, after she claimed the top spot in the event in 2013.
She’s since had a baby – the pregnancy she mistakenly announced to the whole crowd in 2015 – but has had a couple of months to ramp up her training for the event this year.
John Fox was another notable winner and a regular in the Wharf to Waves, while local favourite Shayne Rettke took out his age group for the men.
Rettke said he had been a bit out of practice and didn’t anticipate being competitive on the day.
However, he got in to race mode after discovering Wharf to Waves branded hoodies were on the offering for winners.
Tathra Lifesaver Sharon George also had a strong day, taking out the top place in the women’s 40-49 age group and finishing second in the 1200 metre race.
Organisers said they were thrilled with the response to the day, where more than 110 swimmers contested the main event and around 350 swam in age events.
The weekend’s fun run and bike rides on Saturday also attracted phenomenal entries with more than 140 taking on a 30k ride and 162 entering the 2km fun run.
