In the crash, which also involved veterans Mark Brown and Troy Jenkins, Willmington’s NSW # 89 Marulan Dirt and Tar Circuits supported Beast car was destroyed and it saw him looking at the possibility of his season coming to a premature end. Willmington then sought about saving his season by using his initiative to organise crowd-funding in order to raise the money to purchase a new Beast car from JDS Motorsport and Racing.
“I was thinking about what I could do to raise some more support, and that’s when the idea of crowd-crowding came about,” explained the 17-year-old racer from Marulan in the southern tablelands of NSW.
“In an effort to buy the new car, I needed to raise $7,000. It was quite an ambitious task, but I wanted to give it a go through crowd-funding, and the support I received was overwhelming and I was able to raise enough money in order to buy the new car.”
Willmington would like to thank the following people for all of their donations: Rixon Shaw, Brad Lowe, Heather King, Stuart Brown, Ethan Brown, David Brown, Phil Doig, Daniel Vince, Malcolm Engledew, Damian Booker, Sean Rooney, Daniel Powell, Jeanette Dobson, and three anonymous donators.
“I can’t thank everyone enough for their donations,” Willmington expressed.
“I’m looking forward to contending my first Australian Speedcar Title this weekend at my home track, and I’m hoping to come away with a good result to thank everyone for all of their support – because without it, my Australian Title dream might not have been possible this season.”
Willmington is proudly supported in the 2015-16 season by the following sponsors: Beast Chassis, JDS Motorsport & Racing, Marulan Dirt and Tar Circuits (MDTC), Villtruck, Extreme Auto Parts, Scorpion Racewear, Lee & Thomas Auto Electrical, and Signage One. Special thanks to mum (Natalie) and dad (Garry).
