2016 marks the clinic's 70th anniversary. The clinic was formed after WWII by a group of doctors who realised that Goulburn would be best served by doctors working together.
It was unique with its visionary model of cooperation between GPs and specialists, who have served Goulburn for several generations.
With this heritage comes the challenge of moving ahead with the times. This is a task we have not shirked.
Shortly after my arrival in Goulburn we built the state-of-the-art Ellesmere Specialist Centre, increasing our consulting rooms to 17 and adding a new procedure room.
Recently we installed 199 solar panels on our buildings, the largest installation in Goulburn. In so doing, we have not only shown leadership in environmental responsibility, but demonstrated our commitment to serve this city for many years to come.
As John has pointed out, however, there is no room for complacency in business. I thank him for the wish list he has provided us with. It may take time for us to address it all.
However, in this our 70th year, I am pleased to announce a major redevelopment of our car park and parking arrangements. This will provide a significant number of parking spaces for patients on our doorstep.
Some people may be tempted by the razzle dazzle of the new health hub. However, at the end of the day (as John alluded to in his letter), the most important element of a medical practice is the quality of its' doctors and staff. This is something we pride ourselves on as well as our social responsibility. The latter is demonstrated by our willingness to take on less financially lucrative patients such as in nursing homes, something many other practices are refusing to do.
We are also ensuring the future of high quality medicine in partnership with the ANU through the teaching of medical students, and the training of GP registrars.
As we celebrate our 70th anniversary, on behalf of the doctors and staff of the Goulburn Medical Clinic, I would like to thank all our patients for their loyalty and continued support.
Dr Rod McConnell, Chairman, Goulburn Medical Clinic.
