Bates, who was unable to play in the final matches of the WBBL competition, because of a broken right hand stood in on Friday evening as one of the umpires for the game on Carr Confoy Park.
This was a great opportunity for the girls to meet a young woman, who has started out playing backyard cricket with her brother and father and is now one of our elite women cricketers playing with the Canberra Meteors and the Sydney Thunder.
Bates was also promoting the Friday March 11, MILO T20 Blast School Cup event for girls in Years 5 to 8 that she and Kris Brit, both current Meteors players, will be helping out at. She encouraged the girls to enthuse their teachers to let them be part of this day .
The tournament winners will be invited to the regional finals in Canberra for an opportunity to be zone champions and get a free trip to Melbourne to play at the MCG.
