"I've lost two sisters through cancer and one of our members is also in remission from breast cancer," Mrs Skipper said.
As president of the Marulan Lions Club, Mrs Skipper is inviting her community to a Biggest Morning Tea event on May 26.
It will be held at the Uniting Church Hall from 9am and feature delicious refreshments as well as raffles and games.
"Most of our members have experienced cancer in some way, whether it be through a family member or close friend," Mrs Skipper said.
"For instance, a lady came by herself to our morning tea last year, whose son had just been diagnosed.
"It was heartbreaking, really. After meeting everyone, she now has a lot more support and people to talk to."
The Biggest Morning Tea, now in its 23rd year, is one of the Cancer Council's leading fundraising events.
Its official date this year is May 26, but fundraisers can host one at any time throughout May or June.
This year, the Cancer Council aims to raise more than $4.8 million in NSW for research, prevention, advocacy and support programs.
Spokeswoman Caitlyn Zalewski said registration was easy, with events ranging from a traditional English high tea at home, to a baking contest at work, or even tea-tasting.
"It's about gathering together, sharing good food over a cuppa, knowing your morning tea is helping to give support to people affected by cancer," Ms Zalewski said.
To register, go to biggestmorningtea.com.au or call 1300 656 585 to receive a free morning tea host kit, including theme and decor ideas, fundraising tips, recipes and bunting.
