Hang on! Have we forgotten that the council granted approval last December for a facility in the railway yards that will use methyl bromide to fumigate logs and release vast amounts of this toxic gas into the atmosphere?
Methyl bromide is a known ozone layer depleting substance and its use has banned in many European countries for this reason.
The Goulburn Post reported on April 29 that specialist machinery has been purchased to allow this enterprise to proceed.
A solar farm at one end of town and an air polluting, ozone layer depleting facility at the other end. Goulburn is not yet showing the maturity or consistency in its planning decisions to want to be able to claim to be "the greenest city in the country".
