THE final of the Major Pairs Championship was played last Sunday, May 22. The winners were Joe Gray and Reg Thoms after a magnificent draw shot from Joe to take the last end by six. This gave Joe Gray and Reg Thoms a win by one shot 24 to 23.
This was a very close result and congratulations also go to Youko Kavalainen and Joe Price who lead by five until Joe Gray drew the last miraculous draw to end up one in front.
What a great effort, it was cruel to see the results of our championships to be decided so late in the match but you should see the smiles on Joe and Reg winners for 2016.
Minor Singles results
THREE matches have already been played in this Championship and the results were: Norm Lang defeated Leon Robar 31 to 26 in a very competitive match.
Joe Gray defeated Brian Cox 31 to 28 in another very close match and Reg Thoms defeated John Withers 31 to 13.
The draw for the Minor Pairs is now up on the Notice Board.
The first two rounds had to be played on or before Saturday May 28.
Matches without a bye this round will be played at 9am and the balance at 1pm.
The next round is to be played two weeks later on or before Saturday June 11.
Owing to the large number of entries we ask that all who have entered observe these play days.
It is great to see so much interest in this important part of our club championships.
We remind all players that the loser will be required to mark the following match as a matter of etiquette.
We will need several markers for the first round tomorrow Saturday and if available we ask you to contact our Match Committee and put your name on the list on the board today.
We would like to remind all players that any games being arranged prior to the date advised be put on the greenkeeper’s list so rinks can be prepared.
This is the player’s responsibility if it is not on the list you may not have a rink available.
Consistency Competition
NEIL Whittington and Kevin Rudd played their match in the 2016 Consistency and Neil came out the winner 150 to 110 and now moves into the semi final.
Neil has won this for the last few years and is starting to look like a favorite again.
Pennants
THE last round of the No 6 Pennants was played at Taralga last Saturday.
The winners of the Day were Taralga 71 to 56 on the main board and two games to one.
The aklteam skipped by Michael Watts, Joe Gray, Chris McCullen and our fireball Logan Watts had a 28 to 17 win over Taralga.
This now draws to a close this year’s Pennants. I am afraid we have not had the best year but are building on future teams.
Thanks go to all members who represented our club over the past 10 weeks.
There were a lot of close matches but the results did not go our way.
Coming events
THE Minor Pairs commence on or before the July 9 and nominations now close on Friday June 17.
The sheets are on the board for this championship and nominations are being received.
News around the Club
ANNUAL fees are now being collected. This year it is $60 for both restricted and full members.
It is requested that all players remember that it is the duty of the Skips of the last teams playing on the green to remove the flag from the pole for the night.
We are now seeking anyone who would be interested in taking over the Publicity Officers Position.
