Marcus Hewitt, a 54 year-old small businessman, will contest the newly-named seat (formerly Throsby) at the July 2 poll.
Mr Hewitt has more than 20 years’ experience running fitness centres throughout Sydney, along with a wildflower and cattle farm in the Southern Highlands.
The father of three said he understood pressures facing families and businesses.
“Whitlam is one of the best places to live with beautiful bushland and vibrant villages, and our community deserves someone who is going to listen and fight to preserve the unique feel of our area,” he said.
Mr Hewitt is the seat’s second Liberal candidate this campaign. The party was left scrambling after the initial nominee, Doctor Carolyn Currie, pulled the plug after just two weeks in the position.
