A report for the Coroner is being prepared.
The blaze damaged the Centrelink building and destroyed the St Vincent de Paul charity shop. A smaller fire was also lit in the former St Patrick's Primary School site.
Detective Inspector Matt Woods told the Goulburn Post yesterday that the fire started at about 8pm, but police are still determining exactly how and where it started.
“I have been up at the site this morning and Centrelink staff are removing files, documents and equipment from the scene,” DI Woods said.
“The Coroner has been informed because they have carriage of deaths and fires over $500,000 worth of damage, which is the case with this fire.”
He said security would remain in place at the scene until at least mid next week.
Meanwhile two brothers, both from Goulburn, were bail refused in Goulburn Local Court on Tuesday.
The pair faced charges of destroying property in company using fire, aggravated breaking and entering in company and aggravated entry of a dwelling.
They did not enter any pleas and all matters have been adjourned to Goulburn Local Court on August 10.
