The Geckos maintained their structure for most of the game and stayed solid in defence with goalkeeper Jason Brayshaw, defenders Aaron Kershaw and Dean Robertson shining.
Both teams began slowly with each teams defence well on top. Fifteen minutes the Geckos started gaining momentum in attack and after a good team movement the shot for goal just missed.
The Geckos kept rolling forward, 20 minutes they were awarded the first penalty corner of the game, Aaron Kershaw’s shot was well saved by goalkeeper Malcolm Beer.
St Pats had a great chance to score after 25 minutes when a fine team effort saw the shot for goal go wide. From the restart the Geckos split St Pats defence and looked certain to score but the shot for goal went wide.
Just before halftime the Geckos were on the attack and were awarded a penalty corner, which Aaron Kershaw converted.
Half time Goulburn 1, St Pats 0.
The second half began with the Geckos on the attack with a long raid down the left, but Anthony Anable’s shot was saved by Malcolm Beer.
Fifty minutes in the Geckos were on the attack again and received a penalty corner, Malcolm Beer saved the shot.
Fifty-two minutes in and Ben Staines, Dean Evans combine to work the ball into St Pats circle, where the Geckos were awarded a penalty corner and Aaron Kershaw converted it. Goulburn 2, St Pats 0.
Fifty-five minutes the Geckos had St Pats defence under a lot of pressure with quick passing moves and only two great saves from Malcolm Beer kept the Geckos from scoring.
Fifty-eight minutes gone and St Pats were able to hold the Geckos attack, then worked the ball up field into the Geckos circle to receive a penalty corner which goalkeeper Jason Brayshaw saved. The Geckos failed to clear the ball out of defence and St Pats were straight back into the Geckos circle, the Geckos fouled and St Pats were awarded a penalty, the shot is well saved on the left post by James Hanger.
The Geckos got one last chance to score before fulltime when they received a penalty corner but the shot went wide. Fulltime Goulburn 2, St Pats 0.
A great professional win by the Geckos, team effort well led by captain Aaron Kershaw.
St Pats were best served by goalkeeper Malcolm Beer and Brendan Baxter in defence.
The Geckos are at home today (Saturday) at 1.30pm against competition leaders Old Canberians. The Geckos are in third position.
