He thanked constituents for their continuing support at the declaration of the poll for Hume at the Australian Electoral Commission in Goulburn on Friday.
“I am very proud and humbled by the fact that I got this level of support,” Mr Taylor said.
He listed his key priorities as local jobs growth and obtaining better infrastructure for Hume.
“There is lots of work to do.I am really excited about where Goulburn and Hume are heading. Goulburn is in a great place to live and we have to make the most of it over the next term of government,” he said.
“We have a great road in the Hume Highway, but more investment in local roads and telecommunications infrastructure is needed.
On the issue of High Speed Rail, Mr Taylor said he was excited by the proposal put forward by the Consolidated Land and Rail Australia (CLARA).
“In my role as Minister for Cities, I will be involved in that plan as it unfolds, but while this is not a government proposal - the government is encouraging people who want to invest in infrastructure to put their proposals forward and I am delighted with the work that CLARA is doing,” he said.
“What this means for Goulburn or the Southern Highlands remains to be seen, but it is very important that we get these proposals coming forward and we have the debate - not only in the ivory towers in Canberra but also at the grassroots level in places like Goulburn - about how this might affect us and whether this is what we want.”
Mr Taylor said he was keen to progress towards more efficient voting systems, using technology in future.
“Digital voting is something we should be moving towards - it won’t happen overnight - but there are things we can do to streamline the voting process and reduce the time it takes to know the outcome of an election.”
