Mayor Geoff Kettle popped into Wollondilly Public School yesterday to help the kid’s plant their Eucalyptus tree within the school grounds.
The school’s SRC and leadership team joined with the Mayor and Assistant Principal Steve Armstrong to dig the hole on a beautiful winter’s day.
The distribution of trees to schools is being done to create awareness of National Tree Day, the environment and sustainability.
Come down to the beautiful Wollondilly River Walkway this Sunday, July 31 to take part in the National Tree Day for 2016.
This year’s event is being held in conjunction with the launch of Local Government Week, and Council is teaming up with Goulburn Toyota to plant over 300 trees.
The event will run from 9am-12pm, with a free t-shirt and BBQ lunch provided to participants courtesy of Goulburn Toyota.
Plantings will be taking place by the river between Albert and Prince Streets - entry and parking access will be off Albert Street.
Mayor Geoff Kettle is looking forward to the morning.
“Maintaining and improving our natural environment here in Goulburn is incredibly important,” he said.
“This day is a great community event, with Council teaming up with Planet Ark and Goulburn Toyota to improve our environment.
It will also be a great chance for people to come down and see the progress of the Wollondilly Walkway – a beautiful community resource that is a fantastic area for the health and wellbeing of Goulburn Mulwaree’s citizens.”
