The 22-year-old opened up to the national magazine about training, nerves and getting to share her excitement with her brother David, who also qualified for swimming.
“You always hear people say, ‘if you’re nervous, it means you’re ready’. I think if you really want something and you’re going to work hard at it, you’re going to get it,” she said.
“Rest is important but when it’s time to get up and go to training you’ve got no option. If there’s something you want to achieve you just have to get up.”
At the Olympic trials Ms McKeon claimed the 100m butterfly national title with a personal best and won the 200m freestyle.
