GUNNING is a little distance from Goulburn, it is true, but it’s such a good news story to come out of the tiny town, we had to share.

Our back page story on the achievement of the Gunning Roos and Rooettes local rugby league team has really lifted our spirits.
In an age of sports doping and cynicism, none more so prevalent than at the supposed pinnacle of such achievement, the Olympic Games, the club’s enthusiasm to bounce back is commendable.
Club president Ian Blackburn was chuffed to receive the cup for being named the Country Rugby League Club of the Year in NSW.
The Sydney ceremony last weekend drew six nominees for the honour, and Blackburn said he was humbled on the club’s behalf.
They epitomise the “little battler” Australian spirit, re-opening the club after a 15-year hiatus, and fielding both men and women.
The club’s efforts to raise funds for the important and urgent work of the Beyond Blue mental health charity is also worth cheering.
The Rooettes team (pictured in action, left) continue the good work this weekend with a charity cocktail event at the Black Sheep on Saturday evening.
Cocktail party tickets are $40 each and available from the venue.
Sky high hopes
ADRENALIN Skydive must make a compelling case if it’s latest bid is to get off the ground. Having tried once to extend operating hours, the Goulburn Airport outfit is having another go.
Yet the concerns then are just as valid now. Owner John Ferrara says his planes don’t fly over Goulburn. That’s not what we’re hearing from residents.
They are tired of the “constant, irritating drone.” Adrenalin Skydive has an obligation to operate within its consent conditions and to not disturb residents’ amenity.
We question whether variable wind conditions are indeed the reason for this application. The Bureau of Meteorolgy has up to date wind data and forecasts which surely allows Adrenalin Skydive to plan jumping days.
More information is clearly needed, including a noise assessment.
The development application will surely fall to the new council to decide. We hope they scrutinise the bid just as closely as the last one.
