The ‘Hey Tosser’ program aims to reduce littering from vehicles along highways and at entry and exit points from cities in the region.
Anti-littering promotions will be beefed up during peak holiday periods on major routes used by tourists such as the Monaro Highway, Princess Highway, Kings Highway and Snowy Mountains Highway, as well as at key entry and exit points to Yass, Goulburn, Young and Crookwell.
The ability of road users to report littering through the use of the Report to Litter mobile app will also be available.
Member for Goulburn Pru Goward announced receipt of the funding on Monday from the Canberra Region Joint Organisation.
“This program is part of the NSW Government’s commitment to tackle litter across the state through tailored local solutions,” Ms Goward said.
Environment Minister Mark Speakman said the grant was one of 16 successful projects sharing in $1.2 million under the second stage of the Waste Less, Recycle More initiative’s Litter Regional Implementation Grants Program.
“Local litter initiatives like these will make a contribution to the NSW Government’s target to reduce litter volume by 40 per cent by 2020,” Mr Speakman said.
The grant was awarded under the NSW Government’s $465.7 million Waste Less, Recycle More initiative.
