Crookwell’s women’s reserve grade side was named inaugural winner after securing a 2-0 victory in the final against Mittagong at David Wood Playing Fields.

This was the first time Highlands Soccer Association (HSA) teams played for the Chris Jacobs Cup.

The cup was named in honour of the late Chris Jacobs, a stalwart of Southern Highlands soccer.

Mittagong coach Thomas Goodman said Crookwell deserved credit for winning the title.

“Congratulations Crookwell, you are always a great team to play against,” he said.

“Our girls played so well today and I’m really happy with their performance.”

Goodman said he hoped Mittagong and Crookwell would meet in the HSA’s regular competition grand final later this year.

“Crookwell, if we don’t see you in the grand final, then we have failed,” he said.

Crookwell coach Mick Boulton said it was a tough win by his side. “The girls played all right,” he said.

“Mittagong is always very hard to play because they are so good defensively.”

Boulton said he hoped Crookwell would taste more success in 2016, “but we not getting too far ahead of ourselves.

“Our team is only young with an age range of 15 years to 19 and mostly from Crookwell High, Year 11.

“The girls are undefeated in the Highlands AAW division two competition, 11 points clear of Moss Vale White.”
