Jayden Gulson, son of Michael (Mick) and grandson of Geoff, was recently selected as captain of the Under-23 Australian country development squad.
His proud grandfather came to the Post to talk about him.
Geoff said Jayden lives in Echuca Moama, where he works part-time with his dad, who is a boilermaker welder.
Jayden has been playing with the Victorian team and training with the junior Olympic squad, Mr Gulson said.
“He played at the recent Australian Championships in Darwin, where he was selected as captain of the Under-23 side.
“It is a big feather in his cap. Maybe he will be at the next Olympics. He surely has them in his sights.”
Geoff said Jayden returned to Goulburn regularly.
Jayden’s father, Michael, also played for many years with the Goulburn Fireflies hockey team and still plays in the Australian Masters hockey side.
“Jayden and his sister Kari both play for Victoria. I am a very proud grandfather,” Geoff said.
“The Gulsons have all worked hard for their success, including Marli, and Joanne also plays in the Masters.”
However, Jayden broke his shoulder while playing last week, which will rule him out for at least six weeks.
