The Goulburn Stockmen girls defeated the Gungahlin Bulls in a sometimes scrappy game at the Workers Arena on Friday night.
Going into the game, Goulburn was the competition leader from Valley Dragons, both on 24 points, with the Gungahlin Bulls in third on 18, and Tuggeranong Buffaloes fourth on 10 points.
It was Goulburn’s superior for-and-against record that had them in front.
Up till Friday night, Goulburn had 406 points for and 60 against from 13 games, compared with the Dragons’ 331 for and 108 against from 14 games.
Coach Rekete said he thought his team got a little distracted during the game, retaliating to taunts from Buffaloes and getting involved off the ball.
The Goulburn girls did their best on Friday night to maximise on points by grounding the ball as close to the goal as possible.
This gave Jennaya Ottaway the best chance of kicking the conversion. After the game, Ottaway said they would maintain that pressure in the major semi final on September 2.
Their most likely opponent will be Valley Dragons. The game is scheduled for Raiders Belconnen at 6pm.
