The annual event is an initiative of the Goulburn Regional Conservatorium. Any child between the ages of 5 to 18 can enter and play any style of music they want on any instrument they want. There is always great variety on display and this year was no different.
“From a musical perspective, busking is a full body sport.” said GRC Director Paul Scott-Williams.
“I am always amazed at the fearless way these kids throw themselves into the BUSKOUT competition. I don’t know if I could have done it at their age, but I know they feel pretty comfortable because of the fantastic support they get from the people of Goulburn and I’m very grateful for that.”
This year the competition included a range of different instruments and the featured repertoire covered everything from Adagios to Adele, drawing applause and praise from people passing by.
The winners of BUSKOUT! 2016 were announced at the Conservatorium and presented with their awards by the President of the GRC, Dr. Ursula Stephens.
Winners of BUSKOUT! 2016 were the very popular Bensley brothers, Tom and Lachlan! (AKA ‘Short Notice’). Second place went to flute duo Sarah Gilson and Lucinda Leten and the Third place went to vocal / guitar duo Rowena Russell and Cooper Pierce.
“The Bensley boys entertained the excited crowd with some fantastic songs and certainly displayed their winning skills and charisma! BUSKOUT! 2017 promises to be another great opportunity for young musicians across the region, so look out for it next year,” Mr Scott-Williams said.
