A well attended meeting was held in August with guest speakers Kerry Hort, who is the project manager for the new hospital building, along with the project’s media and communications person, Ian Campbell.

The meeting was chaired by vice president Robyn Rawlinson in the absence of president Helen. Treasurer Ann was also unable to attend, so vice president Bev Kofod stood in.
New members
Two new members, Kerry Lamb and Sandra Walker, were presented with their badges and the club constitution.
They then gave a short talk about themselves to the members so as they might get to know them.
We hope they enjoy being members and that they pick up some useful information from other members and our many and varied guest speakers.
Winner of the raffle was our secretary, Lyn Howe, and flower of the month was won by Pat Larcombe with a lovely lot of hellebores in various colours displayed in a bowl.
Pat is a very regular participant in our flower of the month winning on several occasions: a testament to her varied gardens.
With our guest speakers unable to attend at the beginning of our meeting and with a bit of time to fill, the acting chair asked for members to come up and give a short talk on their gardens or something they really liked or perhaps places they have visited.
It was good to see some of our newer members volunteer along with a lot of others and we got some insight into some members gardens and some advice on places to visit and caravan parks with lovely gardens by one of our “grey nomads” on their travels.
Guest speakers
Our guest speakers arrived and Kerry Hort proceeded to give us a wonderful insight to what is happening in the planning and designs for our new hospital.
Many members and, I am sure, residents of Goulburn are unaware of all the preliminary planning that has already been done in order to get things right for this major project, with a grant of $120 million dollars in the first stage and hopefully more will follow in the future.
The long-term plan is to have all health services in the one area, including mental health, aged health care and pediatric units along with what is already in the current hospital.
Kerry showed pictures of the proposed buildings, which will become the tallest buildings in Goulburn with a four-storey main hospital.
We were told that any changes in government will not affect this project and it will definitely go ahead with an expected finish date of approximately 2020.
Bev Kofod thanked Kerry for the very informative address and presented her with a small gift.
Several members said they had no idea about all that has been done on the project, so we would recommend Kerry as a fantastic speaker for any club wanting to know the information and become more enlightened on what is happening for Goulburn’s future.
Coming up
Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 27. Members are reminded to have their money in for our coach trip to Red Cow Farm and two Robertson gardens in on that date.
Anyone interested in doing the day trip are most welcome to join us on the day – you do not have to be a member.
Please call our coach captain, Annette Cave, on 4821 7138 for details.
