The band, which features students from years 9 to 12 led by Naida Blackley and Lane Moore, toured various local schools.
Most of the young instrumentalists began honing their musical craft in Year 5 through school band programs and have since auditioned to progress to this top Canberra schools band.
They played a selection of tunes including the themes from Star Wars and Spiderman, Bruno Mars’ recent chart hit Uptown Funk, a dance floor staple from pop princess Jennifer Lopez Let’s Get Loud, and a jazz-fusion piece, Birdland.
The Senior Concert Band toured to Trinity Catholic College (Year 7-8 students), Wollondilly Public (entertaining the whole school) and Bradfordville Public (an appreciative Years 3-6).
The group later held an open workshop with students of the Goulburn Regional Conservatorium in the afternoon.
Among the students to join them for the session were Phoebe Smith, Brynn Matthews, Nash Green, Patrick Matthews, Luke Armstrong, Sarah Armstrong and John Vassallo.
The Goulburn Regional Conservatorium took the opportunity to announce a new musical ensemble group for all woodwind, brass and percussion musicians: the GRC Concert Band.
Along with double bass, a concert band's repertoire includes original wind compositions, transcriptions or arrangements of orchestral compositions, light music, and popular tunes.
The GRC Concert Band will begin rehearsals in Term 4.
It is free and open to anyone for brass, wind, percussion, guitar and piano.
Any experience level is welcome.
Ryley Gillen will manage and rehearse the band, on Tuesdays, 6.30-8pm.
