Mr Mylonas, an active member in community events, has been recognised for his conception and continual organisation of Goulburn’s annual Community Carols of Hope.
In a letter of recommendation former mayor Geoff Kettle highlighted his positive contributions.
“Peter has worked tirelessly to not only promote Goulburn as the great city that it is, but also bring joy, unity and a sense of community to the people that live here,” Mr Kettle wrote.
Community Carols of Hope, held at Belmore Park, is the largest event in Goulburn and attracts thousands of local and national visitors, including popular artists who participate in the concert.
Mr Mylonas began his volunteering accolades as a sports organiser for troubled and homeless teens in King’s Cross. After moving to Goulburn he was a part of establishing a school, child care centre and after school program.
“Community Carols of Hope was established to bring the people of the city together,” he said. “I wanted to give the community a positive experience and help build a sense of pride and belonging. There is no greater joy for me than to see the city united.”
Raising $1,000,000 over 25 years, Mr Mylonas introduced the ‘Tent of Hope’ last year to assist attendees who need support.
“The carols give our citizens something to look forward to, many people are lonely or struggling at that time of year,” he said.
Mr Mylonas is a real estate agent, business owner and Goulburn’s appointed Chaplain.
The winner for the REINSW will be announced on October 13.
