Brigade news
Because of the rain our area has had over the past few months, the bushfire danger period will now commence on November 1. Contact Yass Fire Control Centre (4822 2900, to get put on the burns list), your neighbours, and Captain Matt Curvey (0438 429 871) and do some burning off in the next month.
Check on the weather first: you don’t want to be lighting up on a day that is expecting strong winds.
Council outreach
To allow everyone plenty of time to think of issues to raise, here is another reminder of the Gouburn Mulwaree Council community outreach meeting at Towrang Hall on November 10, 6.30pm.
This is a great opportunity to meet councillors and staff.
Send questions you would like raised at the meeting to Amy Croker: call 4823 4486 or email amy.croker@goulburn.nsw.gov.au one week prior to the meeting. A light supper will follow.
Can’t make the meeting? Have a question you would like the Progress Group to submit? Email your request to Geoff Pearson: geoffpearson@live.com.au
Yuletide Mail Trail and Christmas party
Last year we held our first Yuletide Mail Trail competition in the lead up to Christmas.
There were some fabulous entries with a lot of friendly rivalry.
We would like to continue in the lead-up to Christmas every year and the organiser of last year’s competition is happy to do this again, with some able assistance from other community members.
A new email address and information will be available shortly with details, but now is the time to start thinking about creating your mailbox/gate Christmas artwork for 2016.
In the meantime, if you would like information sent to you, send an email to towrangnoticeboard@yahoo.com.au and it will be forwarded to the organisers.
Adelaide Show success
Local residents, Richard and Melisa Bensley and Rick and Kerrie Jones, had great success at Adelaide Royal Show, winning Champion Hackney as well as Champion Turnout and Supreme Champion Harness Horse with Cherry Farm Alarick. Ashwood Court Jester won a first and second place also.
A wedding
Towrang Hall and St John’s Church were the choice of venue in September for the wedding of Sandra Nielsen and Timo Jalkanen from Canberra.
The day was a huge success. Sixty guests to the area filled the church and hall to capacity and everyone had a great time.
Sandra and Timo have thanked Jean Morrison and Alan and Myrna Burman for tireless help on the day and continuous support; the Hall Trust, the Fire Brigade and Mick Studdert for their help with the hiring of the church and hall and lawn maintenance; Alan and Jen Goulder for allowing them to have photos taken on their property; and Evelynn Kidd from Towrang Farm Stay.
To our HSC students
Good luck to all students in the area who will be sitting for the HSC, commencing in a couple of weeks. We wish you all the best.
