THE old flagpole at the Mulwaree High School Remembrance Museum was rotting and the ropes were always frayed – making it impossible to raise the flag.

Something had to be done. It was time to replace it. Stepping into the Fray, indefatigable volunteer Leone Morgan arranged for the museum to receive a NSW ANZAC Community grant.
This grant enabled them to replace the wooden flagpole. The new flagpole is anodised aluminium with an internal halyard. Museum volunteers were assisted by Darrell Roberts from the school’s outdoor staff in securing the flagpole in position.
“It will certainly last well into the future. Flying the flag will also indicate that the Museum has someone in attendance, so visitors are welcome,” Ms Morgan said.
“The Remembrance Museum is indebted to The NSW Minister for Veterans Affairs – David Elliott MP, in approving our grant application as part of the ANZAC Community Grants Program. Our flagpole project will assist in commemorating and educating our community about the service and sacrifice of Australian military people.”
Member for Goulburn Pru Goward officially hoisted the flag on the new pole for the Remembrance Museum on October 21.
The Remembrance Tree Corridor along the school boundaries (McDermott Drive and Middle Arm Road) has also recently been listed on the NSW War Memorial Register. It is a pleasant, reflective 30 minute walk. The museum is open Sunday 2-4pm or by appointment. Contact 4821 2587.
