The other day someone asked how long I had been 'doing' Marulan News in the Goulburn Post.

The answer was: over 25 years. I might add, the Marulan Historical Society has catalogued in date order most copies as I diligently kept them, as did Emily Armitt, who kept those written by her mother, Dorothy Brewer prior to circa 1990.
There have been a number of Marulan publications over the years, but the first was the Marulan Times, produced by Jack Rippon. The first edition came out as a weekly in October 1953.
Jack and wife Meryl contributed greatly to Marulan from the late 1940s, when Jack came to Marulan as assistant station master. Not long after, he started the Marulan Picture Theatre, with bi-weekly movies and a Saturday matinee.
Heartfelt speech
Before her publicity officer report at the CWA AGM , Mila Lukashenk said: "A year ago I became the publicity officer of the friendliest branch of the CWA in Australia. In 2015 I had just arrived to Australia and did not know many, if any, people; anything, really, about the culture or language, which is quite different to the English that I was taught at school. I was welcomed to the branch ... Everybody was so friendly, supportive and helpful and I really appreciate it."
She presented handmade napkins from her home country, the subject of next year's Country Research: Ukraine. Mila also welcomed new member Joy Arts.
Great Car Boot Sale
This will be held at Tallong Hall and Park on Saturday, November 12. Quilts and craft will be on display and for sale. For a car space to sell your items, call 4841 0093.
Tallong Hall is also the venue for Melbourne Cup lunch on Tuesday, November 1. Come along, have a flutter and dress in your best 'bib and tucker' with prizes for best dressed men and women. All from noon.
Marulan Uniting

Kite Festival
Didn’t the town look very festive with the colourful banners lining George Street and (anticipated on going to press) the flags of the 38 countries of origin of Marulan citizens. Thanks to the Kite Festival committee for putting these up and Goulburn Mulwaree Council.
The Big Read Bus
Staff and all those who attended say the Brewer Street visit was a great success. Two people became new members and the librarians assisted with mobile and e-reader technologies, suitable print and audio books, and children's books.
The Big Read Bus will again be outside the Brewer Centre on November 17 from 10am. Join the seniors for their luncheon at the Brewer Centre on the same day.
Garden Club
The November garden club meeting will not take place because of Melbourne Cup functions. The December meeting will be Christmas lunch. More on this in the next Marulan News. The Crookwell garden coach trip on November 5 will depart from Marulan Coaches' workshop at 8.45am. Cost is $30 per person plus $20 entry to the four gardens at Crookwell and Laggan. Call Caroline on 4841 1402 for more information.
Marulan Public School
The 2017 Kindergarten orientation program begins on November 10. The annual swimming scheme will run every day until Friday, November 11. The program is free and the bus is subsidised by Goulburn Mulwaree Council. Parents pay entry fee and a contribution towards the bus, a total of $40 for the whole two weeks.
And a reminder that the Hockey Gala Day at Crookwell has been rescheduled for Wednesday, November 9. Parents are asked to sign and return the new note with details of the rescheduled gala day.
