Raising nearly $2000 for the Leukaemia Foundation’s Worlds Greatest Shave, Mr Joseph said he was extremely proud of the 17-year-old student.

“We’ve got a magnificent group of kids here at Goulburn High School,” he said.

“Shayley is a kind, generous person who pulled this off very well and we are so proud of her. She is also an example of the community-minded people we have.” 

The school auditorium was packed with students of different ages who cheered both student and principal for their efforts in raising awareness of cancer.

“I was really scared, especially since I loved my hair so much,” she said. “It was overwhelming having the support of the whole school.”

She encouraged youth today to stand up and make a change on issues they felt passionate about, regardless of age or experience.

“This is the best age to do it,” she said. “There is the support network of your school, friends and family. It’s a lot of fun and really, who cares what people think.”
