The Springfield House and staff accommodation building located on the Goulburn Base site will be knocked down to redevelop the new hospital. The inner fleet car park and medical gas compact will also be relocated during the initial phase of construction.
Led by Southern NSW LHD project leader Kerry Hort, the initial plans on exhibition explored the first stage of redevelopment and included possible future expansions to Goulburn Base Hospital.
“This hospital will be the biggest building in Goulburn. It’s an exciting and fabulous opportunity,” Ms Hort said.
“When we started the masterplan we asked if all the health services could be put on one campus, and the answer was yes.”
The four-storey acute medical services building will include a new emergency, medical imaging, intensive care unit, operating theatres, palliative and maternity department. Ambulance entry into the hospital will also now be moved to Faithfull Street for efficiency.
“We have spoken to 700 people from different community groups in Goulburn, but we haven’t had a forum where anyone can walk off the street, have a chat and ask us questions,” Ms Hort said. Fewer than 20 people attended the sessions over the two days.
The masterplan includes integrated expansion and a future development of a mental health zone on the corner of Albert and Clifford streets, and additional helipad locations across the site.
“We’ve been honest with what we can and can’t do with our money,” Ms Hort said.
Public consultation on the hospital’s redevelopment is expected to continue next year as planning progresses with detailed plans expected to be released mid to late 2017. The relocation of community mental health services will also be pursued early next year. Redevelopment work will commence in late 2018 and conclude in 2021/22.
