FROM HISTORY: WALTER BRADBURY
Records in the Historical Society Archives tell that Walter, the fourth child of Walter and Mary (Sims), was born at Chatham, Kent in 1835.
His father was a sergeant in the 80th Regiment of Foot in charge of convicts.
His obituary notes the he was born in the reign of William IV and died at the abdication of Edward VII.
Walter came to Australia with the family in 1836. He was one year old.
The family took up residence at ‘Paling Yards’ and later bought property at ‘Curraweela’.
Walter married Mary Seabrook and he managed ‘Paling Yards’ and later other district properties – he was well sought after as a property manager.
A 1922 newspaper article on Walter’s 100th birthday says the township was then called Trialgang, later Trialga and then Taralga.
