THREE IN A ROW?
How long do we have to wait for the stable block in the Gunning showground – irreparably damaged by a falling tree in October 2014 – to be replaced? The requisite three quotations have been obtained by Council after the matter was discussed by a properly constituted s355 Committee of Council that included members who are expert in matters equestrian. Apparently the relevant insurance body is not prepared to accept these quotations. This insurance body is one that is a co-operative, in part owned by the various local government bodies.

It seems likely that the next Gunning Show on February 19 will have to proceed without this vital part of infrastructure, the third such show in a row.
Perhaps this insurance body is less of a co-operative and more of an ‘unco-operative’.
INTRANSIGENT INSTITUTIONS
While on my high horse about difficulties in dealing with large organisations, a bank (one of the big four) used by many local clubs and associations is really on the nose.
The process for changing signatures for executive members of committees is bedevilled with increasingly onerous and often conflicting advice and requirements.
One exasperated volunteer for a local organisation had to make six visits to the local branch to effect such a change, even being quoted the Terrorism Act as the reason for the hoops needed to be jumped through.
There must be a market opening by smaller banking organisations to woo disaffected customers, especially from community groups, clubs and associations whose volunteers are being given the run-around.
COMMUNITY AND HEATH SERVICE AGM
At the annual general meeting of Gunning District Community and Health Service, the following were elected to the management committee: Melinda Medway (president), Michael Coley (secretary/vice-president), Dean Ferraris (treasurer), Trish Hallam, Rachael Foley, Wendy Caire and John Shaw (committee members). Councillor Richard Opie has been appointed to represent the council with Patrick Smith subsequently appointed to fill one of the casual vacancies.
Much has been achieved over the past year, including set-up of the GP clinic with further challenges ahead to meet demand while working within increasingly complex funding and governance requirements.
Copies of the annual report and president’s report (available from the service) make for interesting and re-assuring reading. The Seniors’ Housing Project should be able to be further advanced now that some other pressing issues have been dealt with.
Many thanks go to staff, management committee members and local volunteers for your much valued service to this community and wider district.
FLOCK EWE COMPETITION
Involvement in the Flock Ewe competition at the 2017 Gunning Show is not just about winning ribbons.
It is about continually raising the bar on the quality of the district flocks, ensuring that Australia’s already high standards continue to be met and exceeded.
Such a competition also provides terrific opportunities for networking and learning from each other.
Entries close on Friday, December 16 with further information from Matt Hewitt on 0439 467 282.
HISTORY TALKS
Dr Michael de Percy was guest speaker for the Breadalbane History Group on the importance of local history, a subject of continuing interest and activity.
Last Saturday, Ray McJannett spoke to members and guests of the Gunning District Historical Society. His extensive knowledge on early district photographers and how to preserve old photos was a source of inspiration.
