The Classic Riders of Goulburn asked the council to waive $1522 in fees at the Braidwood Road facility this month. The group will again host its Great Southern Motorcycle Only Swap Meet at the ground on Sunday, January 22.
In a letter to council general manager, Warwick Bennett, the club’s secretary Ross Gilchrist described the Meet as a “unique event” which attracted visitors from South Australia and Queensland.
“Although we are a special interest social group, we are pleased to be able to make donations to local charity fund raising groups and invite them to participate in this event,” he wrote.
Last year Classic Riders donated $2000 to cancer support charity, CanAssist.
However, councillors declined the request on the basis it was a “semi-commercial” event and that hire and cleaning fees represented a true cost.
