Considerable ground and aerial resources are still tackling the blaze, which broke out off Taylors Creek Road at 10am Tuesday.
The fire is still classified as out of control but is being contained on the western side of the Braidwood to Goulburn Road, past Tarago.
The Loaded Dog Hotel at Tarago heard plenty of stories last night as people flocked into the pub.
Employee Vicki Bowes said she heard of one landowner who had lost 200 head of sheep at Lower Boro.
“He lost stock in the fire before Christmas. He had just replaced those and now he’s lost more in this fire,” she said.
Another friend had lost the majority of the front of her Lower Boro property on the Braidwood Road.
Yet another in Barnet Drive, off the Braidwood Road, lost two hay sheds housing “a lot of feed.” The blaze came within 50 metres of her house.
“They’re okay. It’s a good thing there was no loss of life in the fire,” Ms Bowes said.
“You know everyone here so you really feel for them.”
The pub’s phone was ringing off the hook on Tuesday, with people wanting information on the fire’s location.
Coastal travellers were also frustrated that they couldn’t get through the road closure and turned back to Goulburn.
The hotel provided free sandwiches and “moral support” to firies and affected people on Tuesday night.
Meantime, blockades still remain at the Braidwood Road junction at Tarago. Only residents and approved media are being allowed through.
More RFS vehicles have just pulled up and were being directed to Barnet Drive. It’s believed the RFS is building containment lines in the area.
