As I write this message our local police are busy assisting in efforts to control the fire burning near Tarago. So far this fire season we have been very lucky, however the recent extreme conditions have made it very easy for the bush to light up and threaten our community. It is still too early to say, however there are some signs that the fire may have been deliberately lit which I feel is very disturbing. Who would think, "Yeah, that's a good idea"??

All available emergency services are doing their bit to protect the community and I urge anyone who may witness a suspicious fire or anyone acting suspiciously around a fire or attempting light one to please call us and let us know. No piece of information is too small or not important. You see; you let us know. We have too much to lose if we turn a blind eye to this risky and stupid behaviour.
This week saw the anniversary of the Granville Train Disaster. I had the pleasure of being involved in a ceremony at Bowral Police Station where one of the first on scene, then off-duty Nurse Margaret Warby, was reissued with the Queen's Gallantry medal that was stolen from her house several years ago. To have the medal reissued was a logistical nightmare between the UK and here, however several tenacious and dedicated police assisted Margaret in having her well-deserved medal returned.
Sometimes police work is not just about locking up crooks, its also about stepping up and helping our the community where possible, and this was another fine example.
Last week our police arrested a woman driving well above the high range PCA limit in Burradoo. This is another warning to those thinking about drinking and driving around our rural roads. As part of Operation Chrome, our police are actively targeting rural roads and outlying areas of the community. Do not think just because you are a little out of the way that you will make it home. We will be out and about and the chances are you will be caught.
